Every devaluation our editors have logged, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, airlines, transferable currencies. Each entry has a confidence rating; high-confidence events are verified against issuer announcements.
No devaluations on record (lucky us).
Editors will log them here as they happen. Watch Agent will email you when a program you hold is affected.
Frequently asked questions
What is a points devaluation?
A devaluation is when a hotel or airline program quietly raises the points price for the same room or flight. Marriott moved its top properties from 100,000 to 150,000 points per night in 2023, for example, which made every Marriott point worth less without changing the headline value. Devaluations can be announced or stealth (no notice).
Which loyalty programs devalue most often?
Marriott, Hilton, and IHG run dynamic pricing models where peak rates climb continuously, so their effective per-point value erodes most years. Hyatt has historically been the most stable, with chart resets every year or two. Among airlines, Delta SkyMiles and JetBlue TrueBlue are revenue-based and devalue alongside cash-fare increases.
How can I protect my points from devaluations?
Two rules. First, earn points only when you have a redemption in mind; don't hoard. Second, prefer flexible credit card currencies (Chase, Amex, Citi, Capital One, Bilt) over chain-specific points so you can transfer to whichever partner still offers value when you're ready to book.
How does TravelDiari decide what counts as a devaluation?
Each event in this tracker is logged by our editors with a confidence rating. High-confidence events are verified against the program's own announcements or systematic price observations across hundreds of search nights. Medium and low confidence events are rumors and pattern shifts we're tracking but haven't yet confirmed.
